Final Project Assessment

The status of my final project is from my viewpoint incomplete because of scripting concerns. I Think that this game will have a lot of potential when I get everything the way I want it. But it the manner of self critique, my game has issues with the monster animations and the final stage. I haven't yet figured out how to code my ending or winning scene. The sound element of the project is still problematic because I'm still incorporating sounds and music. The weapon selection aspect is still problematic because of scripting as well. I think that after these major problems are resolved the game will be awesome. I intend to fix these problems by getting help with coding from a friend who has flash experience.

assignment write-up 4/ 22

Over this weekend I've been able to start on the animation process of my project. It's kind of weird animating, so I'm just focusing on my boss character at the end since I want him to be highly interactive. I've tried to solve earlier problems concerning my opening page and the transition page, which I think has worked out ok for now. As of now and where I stand with this project, I need to go through and script the project the right way using if/ and statements and I need to sharpen up and solve my animation glitches. For the most part everything is designed and imported into flash for me to manipulate them. I don't know how I will get my monsters to come out of my secret hiding spots.

Assignment Write-Up

For the homework we had to start scripting and animating our final projects. I got as far as the opening scene where the user will have different options concerning the setup of the game. I'm still working on the blender which from my standpoint will take and need some extra attention. Everything else that I'm trying to do is going according to planned schedule except for the view screens that come up when the user is setting up the the game. I'll have to redesign them.

Assignment Write-Up

So, for the sound project over the weekend I came up with the idea to make up this interactive game that doesn't have a true end. Basically, the user is allowed to hit targets on a punching bag and hear these crazy sounds that I created, to give the bag feelings. All audio was made by me, so the project was actually pretty fun to gather raw materials, until the coding started. I had a real hard time scripting my project because some things would work with certain circumstances while others would just not compromise. The targets are hard to hit, so have fun getting to hear all the crazy soundz I came up with.

Assignment Part 1- Due 4/8

I went to this website called Mouse Jam where the user gets this track that plays, but they also get this options to add to track that's playing with small sound movie clips that play when the user releases the button. I think that this would be an excellent way to solve the problem of creating a project that takes control of the tools taught in class last class. Now this website was really cool. What gets me is how the creator simplified their piece to a really simplistic approach to engage the user. It was really a quite simple approach that draws the user in. For instance, when I clicked on a link he had all the sounds play through so, I would know what my options sound like then the dominant track plays for about 4 minutes allowing the user to play along and add to the original track with their own creativity. Plus, the website had many different types of mixes to choose from, so I found myself wanting to visit each link.

Audio assignment- write up

For this assignment we had to utilize the audio techniques that where gone over in class last Tuesday. Well, I basically continued on my last project with the tattoos by basically adding music in the windows that the tattoo and the video screen is in to give the viewer a little extra enthusiasm about placing the tattoo on themselves. Nothing real fancy was added on for this project except the music, which happens to be of metal genre. I had another idea for doing this project but once I started working on the project I realized that I had some gaps in my understanding of how to use the music in action script. So, I really kept this simplified to get the the job done, and I have some questions.

Project write up

For this project I wanted to give the user the unseen opportunity to see what a tattoo will look like on their body before they would actually get it. This project was intended to be highly interactive and fun to do. I am curious to see who actually will pull their shirt up or take their clothes off to get the whole feel of the project.

assignment write -up

For this assignment I had a very hard time figuring out what I want to do for this project. Basically I feel like I need to start over, but to make this game different from what I presented in class I want to attempt to change how the game will be interpreted. After a lot of thought about what we discussed about my project in class I'm thinking to make a game about women helping other people in distress. Maybe there be monsters that are attacking random people and it's our job to clean up the mess. To further my project I added onto what I did in illustrator as far as what I have laid out on paper. So I'm just going to continue working on my game stages and aesthetic.

After Spring Break- Assignment Writ-Up

After a long week of rest we were supposed to come up with a very close structural illustration/ project that will better explain our projects and give the audience a clearer idea of what we are doing. I think that initially I still have a couple of kinks as far as the icons or the way that I will portray my project in the gaming format. The idea was to to basically make a game where it will speak against Domestic Violence and in a way show what happens to people who are involved in the situation. It's supposed to be a stage by stage theme related game that basically comments on what it takes to get out and what goes on until that actually happens.

Assignment-write up

This project was to create a piece that utilizes the dragging techniques that we learned on tuesday this week. This project has certainly tested my knowledge of the program because I had a really ambitious idea for my project. It was so ambitious I couldn't do it. Well, I ended up starting over and doing less for the project than I had anticipated. This project was bottom line difficult for me, because what I thought made sense with the script wasn't being translated with my actions. I have questions concerning movie clips within movie clips and a question about if statements being used to collectively _root the time line. I think that's what I'm trying to say. Well this piece is about assembling a headset or earphones. Nothing really conceptual, but it gets the job done. Like I said I had something else in mind planned for the project, so I hope I can explore those question in class today.

Assignment Write-Up

I think that the weekend assignment wasn't too difficult to make into a presentation in flash. I did have a little trouble finding a specific issue to talk about, but I have that taken care of. I narrowed my topic down to Domestic Violence and gaming. So, in my presentation it will walk through my idea of what the game will look like along with the overall idea and concept. I still have some blank spots, so hopefully I can get those kinks worked out during critique.

Assignment write-up

For this assignment we were supposed to continue on with our previous assignment and correct any flaws concerning the script. I really didn't know what I should fix except the option buttons at the bottom of the swift, so that's what I really worked on. I didn't really change what was there before because they were working, but I did add on to what was there. Nothing major was done to my last project.

Assignment write-up

In this previous project we had to really learn how to affect the timeline with movie clips and use movie clips within movie clips. To solve this problem I simply came up with the the idea of a game that the viewer will attempt to play and win. However, the gamer will find out shortly that it's a back talking game that doesn't allow the user to win. I thought that this idea would prove to be comedic approach, while solving the problem as well. I hope that the rest of the class feels the same.

My 3 Krunk ideaz- Hardly

My first idea begins with exploring video games as a way of communicating social issues.

The second idea would be using art as educational devices.
For Instance

The third idea is how does one compare traditional art with net.art.

Assignment Write-up

In doing the revised flash animation that we continued on last week, was a lot easier than two days ago for the simple fact that I've gotten use to the controls or comments that work and don't work. I hope that the animation still portrays what I initially wanted it to last Tuesday. So far I have a pretty good grasp and comfortable position with action script.

Assignment Write-Up

This project was very confusing for me to do. I had a lot of difficulty with the commands or comments. I understand now how to get action script to work properly, but that's because of a lot of trail and error instances. I didn't use the x-scale and y-scale or try to change the x and y axis of a movie clip, because the project started to appear like a list to me. Besides I didn't really know where to put it. My concept was to use natural food, which is an apple that changes into something we all know apples are used for and vise versa with the orange juice. However, I didn't quite get that point across with the orange juice bottle.

Assignment Write-Up

This assignment wasn't too difficult to perform, but like Jill stated I had to use to errors and going back and figuring out what I was doing wrong. I wish I would have been able to figure out how to combine actions. I did my project very simple and short for the mere purpose of learning how to use action scripts. I had no problem with the buttons or composing so I feel pretty good about what I covered in my short animation.

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

A computer program is technology that allows it's user to use anything that the program has to offer whenever. It gives the user the ability to create something a lot easier without actually doing it the hard way.

Assignment Write-Up + Assignment questions

This assignment wasn't too difficult but very time consuming. For this assignment I wanted to use the flash animation that I presented last class, to help push the idea of connection in my new presentation. I was afraid it wouldn't express the same visual interest as before, but I wanted it to be used. What are your ideas on using early projects again? I also, continued using text build my composition, which was the tedious aspect of the project basically. Other than that I tried to incorporate as much material in this final project as I could without overdoing the idea. My intentions for the flash animation was to recreate the act of watching a video and mimic with my own logo's and opening trademarks until the opening of the movie.

Is there a way of reshaping that practice to this new set of tools you have learned? I think that by using what I know from my previous practices have influenced what I do with this new set of tools. When I think about the reshaping aspect of my practice, I feel that this new tool becomes very useful when trying to communicate my artwork in a sense chronological motion or stages. This form is my way of filling in the gaps that previous practice could not fill.

How do these tools enforce a different working environment from that of traditional practice? Well in this practice everything is more opinionated than before. It also destroys the kind of boundaries or limitations that one might come across using the traditional method. For instance, conforming all your forms to a grid. That method may help in the designing aspect of a artwork overall, but this new tool takes away actually having to do such a thing. That's what makes this new tool more flexible and widely used.

Assignment write-up

For the last assignment I tried to really work with the making the symbols or characters appear to be moving. I didn't focus a lot on masking because I feel that I have a good understanding from the last project. The overall idea for my project was to illustrate my idea of Phone connection and what it would look like as a digiscape. I'm pleased with the results, I also wish I would of pushed other elements with the background and shape tweens. Overall the project was moderately difficult to perform and it was time consuming and tedious. I do want to go back and make alterations if allowed the opportunity.

Assignment Write-Up

This assignment was difficult for me because I didn't remember some of the key-strokes that we went over in class to get certain results. I did a landscape basically with the sun moving and sky changing colors. I wanted it the animation to have a windy feeling about it. So that explains the trees swaying. I made a lot of attempts to make a gradient change in the sky but that didn't happen quite like I wanted it to. I also tried the a masking-shape tween-along a path and that failed too. So I'm hoping to learn what I did wrong so I will be able to use what I learn in class more productively outside of class.

The landscapes websites that I visited are here below.

Quiz #2

Why would you want to convert frames to keyframes? One wants to convert frames to keyframes because keyframes are the frames that identify the start or the end of an action. Regular frames don't have a particular purpose but to count how long an action will take.

How do you do it? I simply click and hold on the frame that I want to change into a keyframe until a drop-box menu falls. Scroll down and select covert into keyframe.

Explaining easing in.
Why is it used? easing in provides the user to make their animation appear more realistic, in the sense that nothing moves constant at the same speed or velocity, but in-fact slows down and speeds up every so often. That's what easing in and out does... it changes the pace slightly to provide that change visually. Easing out slows down the pace of an object instance.
What is the numerical value of easing in. The numerical value of easing in is in the negatives.

Explain easing out.
Why is it used? Easing out is basically the same with easing in but its main feature is to speed up the pace of an object.
What is the numerical value of easing out? Positive sign or symbol.

How do you motion tween color? Set up a beginning and an end keyframe but for the second key frame change the instance's color individually on the properties palette at the bottom of the screen with the tint selection or color palette.

If you wanted a symbol to animate along a path, what would you add and where? One would want to make a layer guide and then set up the starting and end key frames, but on the stage usiing the pencil tool make a path with one stroke action. place the instance on the path with the magnetic tool chosen.

Assignment write-up

The Flash media homework was moderately difficult to perform. I did have a little help, but after messing around with the tutorials and the controls in the program for a while, I started to get the hang of the motion tweening and all of the other required actions. The most trouble that I had dealt with rotation and the motion guide action because I wanted a smooth transition from one scene to the other. I basically used an old illustrator file design that I made last semester, for this project because I didn't want to use the same bouncing balls or squares. What I did learn is that with out an object actually being a symbol nothing will actually work, and that the registration point is important for spinning an instance or object on the stage. Now that I'm gotten started, I am more comfortable with the program.

Quiz #1

What is the difference of a symbol from an instance? In terms of flash, a symbol is a property that lives in the library which acts as the control or master file. An instance is a copy of the symbol which lives on the stage.

What is flash mostly used for? Flash is used for artist or people who want to animate any work of art that they created, especially if it was copy and pasted from illustrator.

What is the difference of a frame from a keyframe? Keyframes usually makes the user do the math for the location and timeline that the art will travel. Frames are the independent units that are between each starting and ending keyframes.

My net.art

This picture was chosen because of the humor that it has and the different kinds of associations that can be made from it. I wanted to illustrate my views of art or my thoughts about how net.art can be something ugly. I didn't want to use text and I wanted it to be a attention grabber. The colors aren't the same colors that I chose them to be so that's frustrating. However, this picture depicts some mountain climbers climbing inside the mouth of a young boy. The boys mouth is by All means "different." The boy to me represents art and how art is still developing. The mouth stood out because I thought it represented how art can be unaccepted or different. Even with something as disgusting as that, people will still try to explore and make something of it.

This is my ready-made.

Net.Art Review Continued

The net.art that I'm reviewing was found on soundtoys.net. Now when I arrived to the site I went straight to the interactive media. This section displayed many different interactive net.art but I choose this one mainly because the viewer has the choice and the ability to create their own kind of art from the ready-made art available for selection on the page. The page shows a viewing screen with four different sections where the viewer has options in the form of dots that one would click on to get a response. After I made my interactive art I couldn't help but to go through all the selection options at the bottom to see what combinations where better or worse.

This net.art was aesthetically intriguing because I had the options that allowed me to interact with the page. The different options made the experience a playful one and a easy way to make fast personal art.

A History of Internet Art Review

In the reading A History of Internet Art, I read that net. art and hacking are similar. My definition of hacking when it comes to mind is: opening and taking an information that one may want on a device that has a lock on it. That device can be anything.

Now, is all net.art basically stolen material from another domain and just renamed and called ready-made art by the artist who post it?

: Cosic, who was vilified in the press as an "Eastern European hacker," once commented that the poached Documenta site was his readymade and proclaimed that net.artists are "Duchamp's ideal children."

Questions that need Answers

Question 1: Since digital media entered the field of art has the perception of art changed?

A: I think that the perception of art has changed simply because more and more artist or people are using technology as their tool to create art. I say this because of the boom in technology and the exploration of art in another format or that is completely different from the traditional ways. So, this means that art is just like math... it's everywhere and made with everything. There is no limit and no end to how art can be made.

Question 2: A relevant section of digital art represents Internet based art. The Internet hardly existed, but artists conquered already this new field for their artistic activities. Can the work of these early artists be compared with those who work with advanced technologies nowadays? What changed until these days? What might be the perspectives for future developments?

A: The work done by the early artist can not be compared to the work that is done now. Reason being is that it is from the same field, but with change in technology. That means to me that even though they are from the same field the way artist have gone about creating has become different with better technology. The perspectives for future developments are leaning towards technology because everyone wants the best results without error.

Question 3: The term "netart" is widely used for anything posted on the net; there are dozens of definitions that mostly are even contradictory. How do you define "netart" or if you like the description "Internet based art" better? Do you think "netart" is art, at all, if yes, what are the criteria? Are there any aesthetic criteria for an Internet based artwork?

A: I don't know what to define "netart" as because I don't completely understand the movement. I believe art comes in all shapes, forms, and sizes, so that means... yes I do. Again I don't understand fully what "netart" is, but the criteria is the creativity of the piece. I believe their is, but that's something we both will find out.

Question 4: Dealing with this new, and interactive type of art demands an active viewer or user, and needs the audience much more and in different ways than any other art discipline before. How do you think would be good ways to stimulate the user to dive into this new world of art? What do you think represents an appropriate environment to present net based art to an audience, is it the context of the lonesome user sitting in front of his personal computer, is it any public context, or is it rather the context of art in general or media art in particular, or anything else.? If you would be in the position to create an environment for presenting this type of art in physical space, how would you do it?

A: I think that a good way to stimulate the user to do this kind of art would be to...? I need a better understanding to make a critical judgment.

Question 5: As Internet based art, as well as other art forms using new technologies are (globally seen) still not widely accepted, yet, as serious art forms, what do you think could be an appropriate solution to change this situation?

A: I think mixing and incorporating accepted forms of art into the unaccepted to create a viewing strategy that allows the art form to be explored until accepted completely. It's like giving the art a window to share samples of old with the new so that it at least grabs attention.

Net Art Review

The net.art that I found interesting is called Cloud by Trioka. It is a digital sculpture that hangs in the 5th terminal of the British Airways Luxury lounge. The sculpture has 4638 flipping dots that flip back and fourth to mimic the movements of clouds or the idea of travel with the aesthetic of the flipping sound. The dots are black on one side and silver on the other side, which mirrors the terminal and provides a rhythm when flipping that makes the sculpture feel alive or organic.

I feel that this piece takes advantage of repetition, rhythm, and relationship. The sculpture is operated by a computer to animate the movements of the flipping dots which allows the sculpture to stand out within the terminal, with the flipping dots repetitive direction and movement. I like how the piece hangs between the escalators like a cloud and allows the people from upstairs and downstairs receive different view points to view the piece. It is also a nice piece because it allows people to find a relationship with the piece that creates a sense of connection and understanding. For instance, the movement is continual and in constant change, but the change is organized and sequential sort of like watching a school of fish in its constant change.

This piece has a lot of different aesthetics that meet the eye and the mind.

Discussion Q.

In the reading regarding We Make Money Not Art, that interviews Vuk Cosic, it doesn't really help me understand what net.art is. So my question is, what is net.art and how can I identify it? I did research and the definition I found says:

- Net.art is a self-defining term created by a malfunctioning piece of software, originally used to describe an art and communications activity on the internet.
